WiFi Calling

WiFi calling allows you to use your cellular smartphone over an available wireless network if the cellular carrier’s network is unavailable or not strong enough. To enable WiFi calling on your iOS¹ or Android device, follow the below instructions. If you do not have a Lab provided cell phone, you must first check that your cellular carrier has enabled WiFi and that your phone model is WiFi capable.

iPhone User Instructions

  1. Open the Settings app
  2. Select Cellular
  3. Select WiFi Calling and slide to “ON” position
  4. The device will ask you to verify the address for e911².

Android User Instructions

  1. Open the Settings app
  2. Select Connections, then Advanced Calling
  3. Select WiFi Calling and slide to “ON” position
  4. The device will ask you to verify the address for e911².

Instructions may vary slightly from one phone model to another. For additional help, please contact Telephone Services at [email protected] or x7997.

¹iPhones that are iPhone 6 or later are WiFi calling capable. If you have an older model Lab issued iPhone, please contact Telephone Services to discuss your options.

²The default address for all Lab issued smartphones is 1 Cyclotron Road. When using WiFi calling on a Lab issued smartphone away from the Lab, please update the address to reflect your current location. If you call 911 using WiFi, and emergency services cannot locate you, they will respond to the address you have entered in the phone. The address cannot be a P.O. Box.
